in front of TV!!! I now use jewelry thread (see-thru or fishing line) because it doesn't get cut as easily as thread... others suggest the stuff you floss your teeth with. Whatever you use, don't use ordinary sewing thread as it just gets cut and falls off. You need to leave a wee gap between the coin and the surface (don't pull it tight) so it moves, you can do this with a couple of small beads between the coin and the cloth. And I put a dab of clear nailpolish or liquid superglue on each knot to make sure it doesn't slip off. I'll try and draw a pic and upload it for you! gggggrrrrrr!!!!! How do you get these images to show in the post?!!

For extra information, see the costume thread How do you stop coins falling off a coin bra?
Make sure you have a really good thimble. It will save you any amount of pain and skewered fingers. |

I like to cover the lower half of the cups only, from about midline down, and sew the coins in curved rows across each cup. The coins are staggered so that the coins on the top row fills in the gaps between beading on the next row. I hope that makes sense because I haven't figured out how to draw diagrams via computer.

Thankyou! I bought this pretty bra....Not a belly dance bra, but it has intricate embroidery and appliques in gold....It is brown, but I am thinking I could easiliy make it into a belly dance bra with some added coins or beads. Do you have any sugestions for decorating the straps?

It is pretty tricky to transform a lingerie bra into a dance bra without more than some beads or trim. It would be hard to offer any opinions, of course, without seeing it, but since when am I restrained by difficulty? You probably need to replace the straps completely and re-angle them. I use doubled gross grain ribbon for straps and cover them with fabric and/or trim, depending on the width. It is also risky to not at least reinforce and cover the sides and back of the bra. You don't want to give its previous incarnation away with elastic sides and a lingerie hook. I use a seam ripper to remove the hooks and eyes, then reinforce, the top and bottom of the side and back with gross grain ribbon. I usually run the lower ribbon clear around from the back under the cups and around the rest of the back. Of course, I always cover the cups with fabric before I add the decoration, so the ribbon reinforcement doesn't show. I also add panels to the sides and back of the bra to take away any stretch, but I am "boobsy" and need the extra holding power.
This is probably not what you wanted to hear , Kutie, but I've seen a fair number of attempts to turn a lingerie bra into a dance bra with just some trim, and it never quite manages to make the transition. |

Thanks Shanazel! It is rather pretty, already decorated...some coins and beading would be all it needs for decoration...But redoing the straps, back and adding more support to it are a must because I am rather busty also. I am loading a picture of it on the computer as we speak, but I have so many pictures on my camera, it is taking forever. lol As soon as it is done...I will attach a picture if this forum lets me so you can see if it may be doable.

Well...I tried uploading it twice and it said the format was too large and that I had to size it manually and reupload it...Anyone know how to do this? I used to have MSN and they would do it for me. Thankyou.

A BRA ? NO PROBLEM! buy a bra with a wire in the cups
cut of everything first ,keep only the cups make a cover like the fabrick of your skirt cover the cup nicely vold it over on the inside and sew the fabrick on than take a strong fabrick like yute or heavy linnen to make a lining inside than use the linnen aswell to make straps nice and strong dubble layers cover the straps with the same or fabrick you use for the cups ,attache to the cups make sure you put the cups in the same way otherwise 1 booby is in newyork the other in san diego..... than do the decoration coins beats mirrors trimming as you like... When all is done you can paste stiffening on the inside or put a wire from a old bracup across the middle inside from the cup it will keep it in shape you can stich the wire in if you use stiffening do that last because you can not put a needle treu that anymore than last hooks and of you go.....and you can make a matching belt the same way its a big job but hee who cares you love your dancing dont you???? see you around Lydia |
