My first costume was for a student choreo, and we had danced a horrible choreo of Shik Shak Shok lol
Back then I was sooooooooo happy with the choreo now i think it and i get mad lol was a mishmash of turkish gypsy drops and latin lol

But the costumes was fair enough
Black harem pants with black/silver coin belts and a top made from black/silver coin belt, was ok for student's hafla.

My very first costume was soft peach colored Turkish style one from Turkish Emporium, though I don't see it in their catalog anymore. It's actually quite nice, they used to make them with very thick and abundant fringe, and very elaborate sequin designs on the bra cups and belt, the skirts were very well made full circle skirts back then too. It doesn't look like the typical "Turkish Special" although you'd never know it by the price, I paid about $100 dollars for it.

Regards
Priscilla

Eh, am I the only one who dares to post a pick of The First Costume

As you can see the costume consist of a top made of stretch velvet and edged with beads and coins. The skirt is a 8-point skirt, made according to these directions Ask The Costume Goddess: Making An 8-Point Skirt . I made the belt by putting together two simpler coin belts.

I still think it is a cute costume - it does not look like a "professional" costume but it is not inteded to, because it was made for beginner dancer. To me it actually feels kinda strange if a beginner dancer wears bedlah, don't know why

I think one of the reasons why I´m still quite happy with the costume is that I read a lot about BD costumes when I made it so I managed to avoid some beginner mistakes... For example hints from Lydia, The Costume Goddess were very useful The Costume Goddess

black satin circle skirt with black choli top...with a blue hip scarf...but for the second performance we overthrew the teacher hehe...and I got the silver coin bra/belt that is in my avatar...though we did go with the skirts she wanted...I had bought a two tier chiffon skirt and she had us wear petal skirts...and I just bought a costume in Egypt...and returned home and bought a Pharonics...hehe...I really have no business with all that...

Now I'm posting my uglies anyway, I'll show off some of my other mistakes:

this was to make myself look fatter, but it totally missed the plot (and look at the wig LOL):

Here I just look ridiculous with my leggings, socks and ballet shoes!

I like the "socks"-look

My first costume was harem pants in royal-blue Satin and a top out of the same fabric and silver sequins beaded all over . It looked quite nice and I felt like a big dancer

I made my first belly dance costume, just months after I started taking classes - I didn't even know how to sew when I started!

Here's a pic:
