OK I need to lose weught as I risk diabetes, but for now I need camoflage!!
I dont see why you need to cover your tummy just because it's big. I am big fan of belly rolls and in my opinion as a performer and a teacher I like to see people rolling in Belly dance ... I mean it's one of those moves(LIKE A PIRUETTE IN JAZZ) that you wanna see! i mean there are so many types of belly rolls and even learning just one type would be enough for a performance.

I try to teach my girls different belly rolls and then when they perform alone they choose which one is most comfortable for them. I mean most of the "great" belly dancers belly roll so why shoudn't people try to learn it at least. With a good teacher you canb get anything you want and ...I am sure that in your countries you have alot of choice for teachers so you can find one that gives workshops on Belly rolling.

About the hole costume- the one i posted hides the ribs ..and most the upper tummy and i don't like it. And if anyone feels uncomfortable with showing their tummy those costumes with the nets are cool, you hide the flab but not the tummy completley because at least you can see through it...and anyways why should anyone hide their tummy. I like big bellies , i got a small one but i Dance Jazz ,ballet and lyrical and for the exams at least we are expected to be a bit slim. But if you are a belly dancer... why hide your tummy! when there is a girl with a wobbly tummy at my class i like to see the way it rolls and how the her body shape changes ...

I like anykind of bellies they are pretty and there is no need to hide them its not like they are vulgar or something. any no unless you are doing some "model belly dancer shoot" i dont think people expect belly dancers to be skinny. I mean take SADIE she is pretty , not so skinny, shapey and I consider her very sweet and sensual . she is not the size 4 woman but she showes her belly and hips i mean..why hide them they are beautiful!

Wink ok ok you don't like the ads.. Net dress or bare belly?

[quote=Reen.Blom;80720]The truth is that you should put promotion posts in the areas of the forum dedicated for it. When you post it off topic just to attact attention it is considered SPAM and is a sign of disrespect to other members. Honestly I was about to report your post as SPAM as I always do in such cases.

However, we are a friendly interantional bunch, as long as we are not flooded with meaningless advertising....

Jenc I agree with you as for camoufage..LOL Remembering also that in some countries one is required to cover up the tummy anyhow...

Now for this I think i got the point that you belly dance girls in the forum don't like other people posting ads. And by speaking to the person rather than reporting maybe you show a bit of human feeling. I mean reporting is babish and disrespectuful if the person is a new girl in the forum.

no RE the belly:
My girls get invited often in shows abroad. One particular girl said that all the belly dancers were expected to cover their bellies because they were from the country and she being Maltese no one told her anything! I mean ... the rules are for the people of the country only and infact they invite girls from other countries often to show a different style of dance but also "a different style in costumes". When i go to Egypt our organizer their reminds me to bring my "turquoise costume" and this costume shows my belly very much so i guess they want to see something different.

Now this is to answer for which is the most valued ability : belly rolls underneath a dress or showing belly. I mean if you do a belly roll well whether you do it underneath a tight dress or showing your belly it will look great but if you like to see the muscular movement in all its action, i think its nicer to see belly rolls with the top with the net or showing your belly. I mean no one needs to camouflage the belly , belly dancing is not about being a super model or something so why should you cover the nice bellies unless it is a law in your country!

Default Tummy

but if you are 60 and you don't have fat anywhere else i mean... it's still something good because if you had to try to lose that fat you can target that area only. I am 2O (going to be next month anyways) when i have exams ( i am still at university) i start eating alot so i get those few centimeters of belly then i try to eat less bread, pasta and pizza when summer comes so that my tummy goes back to normal...

Target carbs, in Malta we eat too much pasta so we tend to have bit of a big belly for our size but if you limit the amount of carbs and not eat much after 7pm tummies do get smaller really.
with mine it works. During the day fish ,vegetables and fruit are good and healthy and they don't make my tummy look bloated

Well If I think that my belly does not look nice, I for sure not going to expose it, because it is not aesteticly pleasing and surely I am not going to wear high slit dress if I prefer to hide some cellulite.... LOL

Dance is much more than belly rolls and some of the most beautiful dances I have seen have been done in a dress. You should search for Maria Aya's kitchen baladi video....

Too many dances are overly concerned with looks rather than dance? And no I dont think that doing one belly roll will save the dance if you have nothing else under your belt...LOL

Default belly dancers with short hair?

Belly rolls don't save a dance if the dance is bad but they do look nice in my opinion. I am not fond of tribal dancing but i watch Rachel often..... Her movements are wonderful and her dance would be stil great without the rolls but when she does them she ....goes on to a whole new level...superbe.

Then on the other hand there are people like sadie that do not use so much belly rolls but still are very good .

I mean its really a matter of what pleases your eye. For example my mother likes to look at the way the smooth arms and hands go in Egyptian Belly dance , I like belly dance in the whole body but i am crazy about rolls.

by the way i wanted to ask ....in general what do you girls think about BELLY DANCERS with very short hair (almost shaved)?

You can't target where you lose or gain fat, hormonal life experience like having babies or the menopause can do very stubborn things to fat distribution, surgery gives you scars and lumps and bumps, gravity sends things south... it is really difficult to dance well if you are are deeply uncomfortable wth how you think you look, and IMO in a clingy dress that hasn't got too much beading round the midriff you can see belly rolls and undulations fine. Actually probably better than in some fringe-ridden 2 pieces.

Are any moves essential? (there's another thread for y'all)

Can we keep to the UBDCs here please?

Default Just to get back on topic

e Belly Dance costume !Professional !Belt,Bra - FUSCHIA on eBay, also, Women's Dancewear, Dancewear Accessories, Clothes, Shoes Accessories (end time 02-Aug-08 13:02:46 BST)

Actually the beadwork and bra are fine and somebody will think this is the "bee's knees"...well it gets down to them!
BUT what makes it UGBD is the proportion of that belt. You can see why they thought it unnecessary to use a skirt.
I am a fan of modern Egyptian style costuming over Turkish anyday but I don't diss V shaped belts completely as I have seen folks look stunning in them and what goes down better with the GP?
..and this is from...Egypt! Not as bad as the "turd" belts but a nightmare belt! Not sure anyone could actually bear the weight!
