Blame the boneheaded family that hired her to appear in this get-up at a family function. How tawdry.
As long as dancers keep playing "chicken" with the religious right, we will continue to be viewed as scarlet women over there. Why can't folks just dance and let their merits shine through without stooping to obsecnity?

and that costume... I just don't get how anyone could wear it and dance. I arleady feel naked if my skirt has a little vent (is this the right word

Costume? What costume! She must have run out of fabric, But then again slaves wouldn't be given much fabric. When she did her spin at the end, I covered my eyes ('mock horror'

) but had to peek .... was wondering what slave girls wear under skirts with HUGE side splits. Methinks it was lucky for everyone she didn't do a full face spin!

It's Princess Leia from Star Wars. The chain around the neck, too.

Carrie Fisher said she hated having to starve herself to look good in that costume and vowed never to do it again.

I suppose she could have danced in one of Leia's other outfits:
