Gee, I've been pro for a while...I wonder if any of my costumes would fetch a price like that?! hahaha

Personally, I think the perfect accompaniment for the fish bra would be a mermaid skirt with genuine barnacles attached, and maybe some trailing seaweed. I'd have loved to have seen the dance that costume was created for. Possible music: "Splish Splash".
We could hire and train Daryl Hannah to belly dance, wear the costume and dance to the music. Tom Hanks can be in the front of the audience watching! lol

LOL! I have to go back to that thread and refresh at the price on Ebay! Maybe after paying the mortgage, car payment, medical insurance, food, clothing etc. I might just have enough left over! lol

****It makes me wonder if the costume really did belong to Jiliana in the first place or if it is a scam? There is no way to know except to contact the designer.

Default My jury is out on this

New Design!!! 3piece Belly dance Costume - eBay (item 130209871016 end time Apr-03-08 20:01:08 PDT)

I do like print these days and costumes that are getting away from the usual 2 piece and "trad " styling but I feel this misses the mark and can't quite put my finger on it.
Certainly not horrendous but mmmmmm

I'd say there is too much else going on besides the print and the bra reminds me of a swimsuit top with fringe. If the accessories were minimal and she lost the dangling scarves it might help. When a fabric makes that big a statement all on its own it needs some quiet in the rest of the costume or all becomes bedlam.

Pardon me if this is off topic or discussed before, but what exactly is so "ugly" about these costumes?

This should be in the UBDC thread... as for Question, well IMO most of them really are quite awful, No 1: looks like some sequins have been very poorly attached to an everyday white bra, only on the cups, and it sits crooked, No 2: panties & bra set for BD ???? Tacky! #: the back looks bad, but OK some may like it, 4&5: too much, just overdone, coin bra, OK over something, but coin panties, who would subject themselves to that, and why bother surely one would wear a skirt? The great loops, OK, I don't mind that, to me, that is not so ugly, Turquoise & pink, IMO is just plain awful, 2 balls eyes for target practice and the skirt is so sheer - undies should not be seen! and on it goes, The dress with the green hand well all I can say about that is halloween ... just positively weird. basically most of the costumes pictured are just not classy, and I am sure the GP would laugh a dancer off the floor if they appeared in some of these and other dancers would have heart attacks and call out the belly dance police and zill said wearer into BD prison!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love some of the stuff others think is ugly and I am sure it is vice versa.
What is ugly to me is badly made..like a sadly trimmed bikini ( which is one of those) or tasteless.
2 of my friend's costumes are there and no way are they ugly in real life..beautifully made and maybe not to everyone's taste, but great in the "flesh" and on the right person.

I don't consider ugly, for one minute, the ebay item I just posted but some of the ideas behind it don't work for me.
For instance if you use a pretty print fabric, you ease up on the appliques. make a fabric work for you. Belly dance bras can be successfully based on a lingerie bra but it has to be the right one or it looks like what it is!
