I still have my grandmother's button jar and collected several jars worth of my own buttons- such a bedlah I could make if I didn't hate to sew buttons on. Oy.

The height of Cockney bling: Pearly Kings and Queens - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You know, maybe I should get in there and invent Pearly Queen Belly Dance Fusion! # Knees up, Mother Brown #

There are some middle eastern traditional costumes among nomadic peole that incorporate buttons into embroidery designs and are perfectly beautiful.

It works, I think, because the buttons are one element in an overall design pattern and don't leap out and scream, "Hi, We're buttons, and we're here to make you sit up and gasp!"

I'm not sure what those buttons on the bra are screaming- I put both hands over my eyes.
