Some people would rather have stones thrown at them than be ignored.
![]() Part of the reason we laugh at some of the costumes here is because we can relate to "God, what possessed me to wear THAT??" Amulya posted what she thinks of as one of her early costume disasters on another thread. I can't post the mauve crushed velveteen circle skirt I made from not enough fabric (oh, that was a disaster!) because I never took pictures. I was a very modest dancer who didn't show a lot of leg and that one was so revealing I took to wearing a white chiffon "petticoat" under it. It looked okay with the chiffon addition, but the first time I wore the mauve skirt alone, I felt unclothed. By the standards of Juliana and some of the other dancers of the time, it was positively puritanical, but for me- ooooo, legs clean up to the hip on both sides was NOT my preferred look. |

That reminds me of my first official costume, I bought it from a well known dancer and she claimed it had been her first costume and she said it was hard to part with it, but she did it anyway. I paid way too much for a thing that was falling apart! The back straps of the bra were tiny and it didn't make me feel save and covered, the skirt was even worse: a hankerchief skirt and each hankerchief was open, so if you'd spin you could see underwear. I closed all the gaps but still the skirt didn't look nice, I sold it.
Actually now I think of it, the whole costume was a disaster: bra and belt were irridesent marine, one skirt was red and one was neon green. Not that I worse that combi, but that dancer used to! I sold the green skirt too... and I reconstructed the bra and belt set into the costume I posted on that other thread.
