Hmmm. Well, more power to her, but I want to see legs in my class, including hips, knees, ankles. And I usually spend at least a couple of weeks convincing someone that if she wears a size XXXXXL tee shirt that bags to her knees, no one is going to be able to tell she's dancing at all! The point about circle skirts swallowing fringe is an interesting one. |

It doesn't happen all the time depending on the shape of the belt, but that particular belt is very narrow in the front and the fringe hangs long off of it so it often disappears in the circle skirt and also you lose the shape in that you can't really tell that the fringe is sewn on diagonally and such.
The back isn't as bad because it's broader so it sits on top of the skirt and you get a better view. Personally i think it looks better over a smooth fitting skirt on the top so you can actually see the fringe pattern better. A mermaid/trumpet skirt looks great too so that you see the fringe and still maintain your flair when you spin. |

Go for a mermaid skirt or a straight skirt with splits. Colour? Anything goes with gold!! (especially diamonds - ooops!)
I totally agree with taking it to a fabric shop and trying all the fabrics out... Would go for a really simple skirt without trims or beading, as the belt is the focus. I would also go for a couple of layers of chiffon rather than just a single one - gives better underwear cover, but also looks delicate and floaty even though the design of the skirt is straighter.

Thank you all for your suggestions! It arrived last night, and although it will need a little bit of altering (that I can manage to do) I'm very happy with it:
As to the discussion about classwear, perfumeshop is right: we do wear circle skirts for our performances, and the ususal leggings/yoga pants for classwear. Skirts are too hard, and there's not enough room in the hall for everybody!! Skirt styles: I haven't been game enough to try a trumpet skirt before - I have the irrational fear that they will cling to every lump and bump and be most unflattering. Straight skirts likewise give me the heebies. Tell me I'm wrong? I hadn't thought of losing the fringing in the circle skirts; thanks for pointing that out Mya!They seem to go well with black pinstripe suit pants... maybe I could start a new trend...? ![]() Last edited by gwinity; 11-22-2007 at 02:33 AM.
