Which do you prefer? Why?
Personally, if I was wearing a hip scarf for practice I'd rather it have coins. If I get a belly dance costume, I'd prefer a little fringe on the top, than nothing hanging off the belt.

On dance costumes: coins every time. They aren't as slick-looking and glitzy as fringe, and they work beautifully for old style AmCab (oops- American Oriental. Hope Rocky didn't drop in time for that slip
.) Right now, they are not fashionable, but just wait: what goes around comes around. Why I read in Vogue Magazine just yesterday that THE BRAID is back and tres, tres fashionable. And my braid is my own hair and not a switch, hee hee hee. My coins are fake, unfortunately. ![]() For practice, I prefer quiet scarves, but those darned noisy coins make some of my students so happy that I would not dream of depriving them! |

I've got a belt with real coins. If I get really short of cash, I could demount the coins from it, but thinking about the amount of time and effort of making it, I'd rather sell it as it is...

Sarah Skinner's costumes give great examples of both. Personally fringe works better for me. It just seems to sit and form better over my body. Also stays in place better when dancing. Though I do also like the look of coin.
