Skin Tone
Hi there:p ,
Just wanna obtain some ideas! I am chinese girl with black long hair (a bit curly), slim figure. My skin tone is "typical chinese", not tan one, not white. I just planning to have a sunshine summer, and get a bit tan like honey tone. I saw some belly dancers with honey skin, when they are doing tummy movement, look so great! And another reason is, I have some cellulite on hips and legs, would it looks better (not so clear) if I get a bit tan? And any suggestion for removing cellulite? Thanks! Cheers ~Chi |

Not that you asked...but...I'm going to chime in and offer some unsolicited advice.
Your legs, no matter how 'bad' you think they look will be under a skirt or in harem pants...no one is as focused on our imperfections as we are! "Tanning" your skin is deadly. Skin cancer is a horrible thing to have to endure...forget the "sunshine summer" and opt to celebrate your beautiful pale skin tone and all the beauty that is you...You're young and healthy...don't age yourself by ruining your skin and damaging your health for the sake of appearance. I totally agree with Gia, tanning is bad for your skin. Why not find costumes that compliment your skintone? I am very fair (kind of very pale olive) myself, but I don't see that as a problem, as long as I wear the right colors.

A little more tan will make your cellulite less noticable, but you could also work out - more muscle in your legs leaves less room for cellulite. ![]() Last edited by da Sage; 10-10-2006 at 05:43 PM. Reason: clip quote to smaller size |

Respectfully, that is not true de Sage.
Skin stretches...plenty of room for muscle and fat... A healthy diet and exercise in addition to your dance practice will help reduce your total body fat (as we all know, there is no such thing as 'spot' reduction). If you lift weights, you'll burn more fat, as a muscular body burns more calories than one with less muscle mass. Gia |

I unfortunately know all about stretching skin. But if someone eats the same # of calories, but begins to burn more by doing aerobics, their fat layer will shrink, and usually their cellulite will be less obvious. And if someone eats the same # of calories, but does weight workouts, they'll build muscle, and their fat layer will also shrink (because there's not enough calories to maintain both the new muscle and all the old fat), and usually their cellulite will be less obvious. I should have said that if you work out more, yet eat the same way, cellulite will probably be less of a problem, because a set number of calories can only go so far to fuel activity and maintain tissue. It is the fuel that limits the body size, not the skin! Too bad for me that working out is more difficult than writing about it!:p |

Dear Chi,
According to Keti Sharif BD, and especially shimmies, helps reduce cellulite. That seems to make sense to me. See her article on BD and health on her website: http://www.ketisharif.com/healthbenefitscourse.html As far as I remember you are based in Australia and were looking for teachers Perhaps you could explore her website. I think she travels to Egypt on a regular basis and there was also an Australian festival mentioned on her website. Our australian forum friends would probably know more about this Oh, I agree with the others: Stay a way from the sun! You'll be happy you did when you are older Freya |

Thanks
Thanks for all ladies' reply!! My PC was having problem during the previous weeks....It seems that "sunshine summer" is not a good idea, HAHA !I do agree with you ladies now, as Australia is becoming hot, and the sun is quite strong, even I haven't start my beach journey, my cheeks already started to become "red", so poor ! I put on mask for a few nights, finally the problem solved. Now, the sunshine summer plan is gone.... stay away from sunlight... haha.... Just want to know about those sunless tan lotion, would it hurt the skin? and would the skin return to its original color after certain period after applied the lotion? Do anyone try those products before? Once again, Thank you! |

Hi Chi,
Definitely stay away from the Australian sun if you can - apart from going red from burning, skin cancer really isn't fun (or pretty!). I'm very white, and occasionally use fake tans - mainly for special occasions and so as not to blind people with the glare off my skin! The one I'm loving at the moment is Johnson's Holiday Skin... it moisturises the skin as well as building up a gradual tan so you don't go orange. Remember to exfoliate first, then apply a some of this after your shower/bath every day until you get to your desired shade. They do fade over time, (I think I get a couple of weeks out of it, but it might be different on you), so you will need to keep reapplying if you want to stay "tanned". |
