Dear Zahra,
I have really curly hair and it is also very fine, nordic hair, so when its wet there is really not a lot of it, but when it dries it goes all big and frizzy on me. It used to be a real pain until a hairdresser suggested some really great stuff. I've used it for about ten years and whenever I've tried anything else I have problem. I also look absolutely awful when I come from the hairdresser as most of them have no clue whatsover how to handle curls. Its called FUDGE and comes in grey jar with a bright orange lid. They sell it at Ricky's in New York and select hairdressers in the US and Europe. I've never found it in Duane Read or other drugstores. It's also quite pricey: $ 17 or something like that. I mix two products for the best result: FUDGE hair shaper. (strong hold matte moulding creme, hold factor 10) FUDGE hair varnish (light medium definition wax: hold factor 3) This is how i do it and it works wonders for me: Wash my hair, gently and quickly squeeze out excess water. I never dry it much i.e. no walking around with towels on my head. Brush through once. Put a only a little bit of each product in my hands and mix. Hang my head over and squeeze "the stuff" in gently from the bottom and up. Leave it completely alone for about three hours to dry. The trick is not to mess around with it much and just let the curls do their own thing, that's what they tend to do anyway! I NEVER use a hairdryer, not even the special ones for curls, and not even during the hard Scandinavian winters. If i do, I look awful. Also, I NEVER brush my hair unless I'm going to wash it. I don't do anything with it really, except sometimes I might put a little of FUDGE varnish in it when its moist after showering if there's a hint of friss. When using these products my hair looks great great and the curls look, and feel, soft and bouncy. It's also extremly low maintenance--as I said I never do anything with it other than what I described above. I've had friends with a little bit of curl try it and they love it too (some had a lot thicker hair than mine). It brings out and defines the curl. I think it's so worth the money! I hope this helps, good luck! Freya |

Not curly myself (wavy), but I know of many curlies who swear by Curly Girl by Lorraine Massey & Deborah Chiel.
http://www.amazon.com/Curly-Girl-Lor...e=UTF8&s=books One of the main premises of the book is that curly hair tends to be over-cleaned. People with curly hair should hardly ever use shampoo. I'm pretty vain about my hair, so I check in to this forum every once in a while: http://www.longhaircommunity.com/ A lot of people there swear by the conditioner-only (CO) method of washing--no shampoo at all! I know, I know--sounds crazy. It makes a fun science experiment, though! I have an especially oily scalp (comes from genes and from being in my early 20s), but if I'm going to wear my hair down I CO. It makes my hair more wavy and less frizzy. http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...ead.php?t=9367 Curly girls also rave about this site: http://www.naturallycurly.com/ |

My hair was MUCH curlier when I was a girl- I literally had a strawberry blond afro. This was before all the great styling products came out for curly hair.
For years I used Rusk "Brilliance" , which is a silicone based serum. It worked well for quite some time. But then just stopped working. I tried Frizz-Ease, Aveda, Biolage, Paul Mitchelle, Fudge and I don't know how many more. Some didn't work at all, some worked, but were so rich my skin started breaking out around my hairline. I tried the Curly-Girl concept of "washing" with conditioner...I think I'm too active for that. It wasn't good for me. BUT at least I gave it an honest try. Ouidad has been my product line of choice for the last couple years and I LOVE it. Their site has a "curl profiler" questionaire and for me it has been entirely accurate. I've tried other products and ended up giving them away. I DO use a hairdryer with a diffuser on a cold setting- but only to get my hair from very damp to somewhat damp, never until it's all the way dry. The book Curly Girl and the Ouidad site both have great suggestions for drying your hair with clips. They both work really well with different results in your curl. |

Hello all above,
I have also curly hair. I have some quite good advice, I don´t know if you know it: after washing my hear I just lean forward and "comb" my hair with my fingers. After that I use the the product from L´Oreál Paris - it is a little pink bottle - "Hot curl" I just lean forward and spray it on my hair. I use a hairdryier but with middle warm air. It helps really good, you can try it !!! Or also Wellaflex gel for curly hair with shimmering effect for middle dry hair is also good !!! Any other good tip ??? |
