I too started suffering from leg cramps (mostly hamstring, sometimes calf),waking me up in the middle of the night.... (& occasionally in the day... but those are easy to "catch" before they get too painful!).. it started when I was pregnant w/ my 3rd child....at age 34, about 7 yrs ago) now I mostly get them if I have taken a long walk (1 hr or more) or done a vigorous class that evening.... (I exercise daily)... I too will try the magnesium.... thanks for the tip!

I found out my mom has been having leg cramps almost every night lately.
She is taking a magnesium suppliment daily, but her body might not be absorbing it properly so we'll see if liquid is better. So, this info and the links provided will help greatly. ![]() |

Are you feeling better A'isha? I hope the cramps are under control.
I was going to mention another problem could be vericose veins. People who are on their feet a lot...That could be you teaching classes, have a tendency to get them and leg cramping is a symptom. I hope this is not the case and you are feeling better. |

Many, many moons ago, I suffered from excrutiating cramp in my very "pregnant belly" Ouch! - talk about take your breath away. Anyway The doc gave me calcium, magnesium with a little zinc as mag works better with zinc. It stopped them altogether. Also the doc told me to eat bananas, I couldn't eat them while prggers though as they gave me heartburn.
Do see the doc though it could be some other underlying issue. ~Mosaic Last edited by Mosaic; 05-01-2008 at 07:43 AM. Reason: sp |

a'isha,
do you have vericose veins? i am recently having real bad problems with legs. big blue (not black) spider veins popping up. i only had one vein in my leg for as long as i can remember, well that you could see through skin. now my legs are hurting all the time and two mornings woke up so bad, i could not walk. my sis has had the same thing, she went to doc, he says the valve near the inguinal canal, i guess- i'm adding that part, but i believe that is where the leg bends, stays open all the time. this is me supposing: so i guess a faulty valve doesnt create a pressure change to create effective circulation? plus my legs are swollen looking, like they are retaining water?? do you have any of this by any chance? all and all the pain is negligible though a constant nuisance. |

Quinine is in Tonic Water/Bitter Lemon! I get terrible muscle cramps at night, and a glass of bitter lemon before bed really does seem to improve it.
I also find to shake it off you just have to stretch. It's agony to start with, but its the single fastest way to get it to calm down. xxx |
