Default Wrinkles and Eyebags

What do you use on your face?

What, for you, helps in minimizing wrinkles and eyebags?

I use L'Oreal Revitalift every night, Stieva-A (Tretinoin) three nights a week and for daytime, Oil of Olay with SPF because it's light - it's so hot and humid in my country!

My wrinkles were more pronounced after almost a decade of training under the sun during the hottest time of the days (best time to train for competitions) Now that I spend half the time under the sun and used those creams, and eat healthier too, my wrinkles have somewhat lessened but I still want more improvement on my wrinkles and also my eyebags (GRRRR!) ... Life (or vanity) must really begin at 40, hahaha!

I never really sunbathed and haven't played alot of outdoor sports. I just don't like sunbathing or laying out in the sun at all, so I don't have alot of wrinkles, so far.

I do use olay's Daily Regenerating Serum and Definity eye illuminator. I also use their regenerating Night cream. I use the serum and the definity morning and evening and the night cream just lightly around my eyes during the day. I find that using a moisturizing cream like this plumps the skin somewhat and makes everything around the eyes look fresher. Then I apply concealer lightly and use a mineral based foundation before my eye make up.

I can say, I see a difference in my skin since using Oil of Olay products, the tone is much more satiny than it used to be and the skin appears to be lighter where I have some problem with dark circles (heredity there).

I agree with you that proper diet, plenty of water and sleep are essential. I can tell in my skin when I am not getting enough rest for certain.

That's it - sleep is a problem for me. I have to work on this.

When I'm done with L'Oreal Revitalift (taking so long to run out!), I'll try the other Olay products. I am also using Olay face wash and Dove alternately to clean my face. For now, I'll look for the Eye Illuminator. I don't have dark circles, just eyebags which sometimes grow as big as my cheeks Hahaha!

I don't use foundation, only loose Johnson's baby powder. Do you think using foundation helps keep out the dirt and pollution from penetrating the skin?

Thank you so much, Phoebe and Lydia!

Thumbs up

Excellent advice, Lydia. I'm a big believer in beauty starting from the inside out. If you're in good health, it will show in your skin, hair, and nails.

Lydia has already listed some sound advice with the exercise, limited sun exposure, drinking lots of water, and eating right. Taking vitamin supplements can also help. My dentist says that taking vitamins C and E help the body heal faster, including the skin. Getting plenty of sleep is also important (I need to take my own advice on this one, lol).

I like using aloe vera on my skin on a regular basis. Not only does it keep my skin soft, it seems to diminish the fine lines on my face. I also use the "Ultra Lift" series of Garnier Nutritioniste skin care products. In their "Skin Renew" line, I use their Anti-Puff Eye Roller. It has a cooling roller tip that applies the serum to the under-eye area; feels very soothing! It helps to diminish dark circles and fine lines. I keep this product in my purse at all times for whenever I need a quick lift.

Perhaps the most important thing you can do for your skin is to wear sunscreen. Even if you're only exposed to the sun for a short period of time, it can have adverse effects on the skin. Never leave home without a good sunscreen for the face. I can't remember off-hand what brand I use, but I think it's by Neutragena, but don't quote me on it. Next time, before I come to the board, I'll check the brand I carry in my bag. Sorry, but my brain functions slowly at 3:30 in the morning!

I noticed you posted while I was typing my reply, Angela. I wouldn't use baby powder on my face, it's not meant for that area. Actually, the skin is a barrier against pollutants, so outside elements don't really "penetrate," even topical cosmetics such as creams and moisturizers. In order for those products to do that, they would have to be labeled as drugs, and not cosmetics (just thought I'd throw that info in). However, a good foundation containing a sunscreen would help protect against minor sun damage. If you powder over your foundation, use regular translucent powder to set your makeup, instead of baby powder.

Sleep is a must!! try to go to bed around the same time always that helps...have some relaxing thea or a glass milk that is aswell good..dont drink alcohol it will make you sleep louzy!and next day feel bad and sluggy,s
yes vit c and e is very good farasha you are correct it renew your cels and that happenes again at night when you sleep so you see its the whole package
..babypowder on the face ,i agree perhaps not so good...Angela to keep your skin nice and clean is neccesary what ever product you put on it so its realy cleaninjg and then caring if you like to keep it all nice and clean steam your face atleast 1 time a week you can do that at home just boil a pan water and put in camomille thea and sit on top of that cover your head with a towel so the steam stays in...carefull do when you do that its hot LOL
When you finish with that you can clean it nicely because the pores are open
,after cleaning you can put a mask like a deep cleansing mask so the pores get more clean...there are so many masks in the market you can pick all kind of masks...when you are done with that use a good daycreme...only ontop of that use foundation (if you would like to use foundation) most daycreme,s have sunscreen in it just see the contains...dont forget you must always clean your face properly before sleeping so your face can recover from the daytime polution make up enz....then also you can use a nightcreme if you like ..i use this foundation,, estee lauder ideal matte,, its nice and oilfree that is what you have to look at to oilfree foundation is less risk of clogging the pores so you avoid breakouts...i dont buy expensive cremes enz but this estee lauder product is realy nice, so its the only expensive thing i get for my face...i also use it when i go on stage it keeps my make up perfect in place ..but then i put over the foundation a looze powder so it sits nicely....then i tell you something else what is realy good specialy when your face lookes ,,dull,, like your skin is just tired looking...use ,,retin a,, this you can just buy over the counter..its a medicine used for acne, and renew all the skincells....so you use it 1 day yes 1 day no...after 6 days you will feel the old skin becomes very dry ,you then put a peelingmask and when you remove the peel you will see that you have a new face ....i do this like every 6 weeks,it realy nice.... must be carefull do you can not go in the sun after you put it on,and be carefull otherwise it will go very hash on your skin ,and not around the eyes !!!! so go slow with it but it is very good ,and many coasmetic cremes are using retin a in their product...just please go slow and carefull with it untill you understand the strenght of it ,and not everybody,s skin is soothable...gosh this mail became to long better go....Lydia

I haven't got any.. I have a mirror in the attic....

Oh unless..no sunbathing, no smoking, more or less giving up alcohol(more lately),drinking water, using olive oil added to a good eye cream and light moisturiser since I was in my 40's has anything to do with it.
Now I tend to use Boots No 7 Rewind serum, their or Clarin's day Cream and Boots,Clarins or Body Shop night cream. Eye gel from Bodyshop and a cream for night.
I am very lucky in that my skin has few wrinkles it was always oily as a young woman so my postive pay back time now I hope and no shadows.
But I do think steering away from sunbathing ( I just burnt so gave up early on ), giving up smoking and not giving up on good olive oil when dieting has helped. I have younger friends with faces like leather because they went for the BIG TAN and starvation diets!
pS no oap on face

Hahaha! You're still awake at 3:30am, Farasha, so like me!

I have been doing all the things you, sisters, listed except getting enough sleep, applying eye cream (will have to check those out) and the foundation. I do have a Dove liquid foundation here with SPF which I used in a cold country only as I find it feels icky in my hot and humid country right after application. I'll use this again and see.

Been taking Solgar's Ultimate Antioxidant too which is loaded with vitamins. My favorite organic store ran out of Solgar's Hair Skin and Nails tablets which I heard rave reviews about.

Farasha, I am curious about your aloe vera regimen. When do you apply it on your face? I know it's supposed to be great for wound healing and scalp care.

Lydia, I agree about Tretinoin. It is amazing! I'm using the Stieva A brand from Canada. Retin-A is from the US. Haven't tried it yet. I just had a facial yesterday after almost a year of not having one!

A friend here has been urging me to try the diamond peel Any of you tried this? Gosh, another expense again, hahaha! For the sake of beauty... Hahahaha!

Yes you're right Liza, the doctor always said that sun is the skin's no. 1 enemy but I was really dedicated (competitive and obsessed are probably the right words) to my outdoor sports, I just threw vanity to the cliff. I used to look like a black lizard. I really think Tretinoin is amazing though as my skin has really improved and also because I have started eating veggies 2 years ago, getting less fastfood and lessening my time under the sun. Still have the face wrinkles but not as bad now! It's funny how I became conscious of my skin now that I'm much older. Olive oil makes me tan so fast so I have avoided using it in my country.

Liz, what is in smoking that makes it addictive? I don't really understand why others find it really hard to kick that habit. It's great that you have given it up. Congrats, girl!

Girls, thank you so much! Hugssss

PS I also think wearing too much make-up can emphasise any wrinkles and makes you look older. Foundations ( I only wear at night) should be light. I like Clarins Beauty Flash Balm..in fact I worship it...for every day or a tinted moisturisor at most. As you get older you have to find eye shadow that don't settle into those creases. I like MAC best as they have an uncanny way of being colouful yet natural.

PPS I bet I am best placed to give advice being an old bag with more shopping bags than under eye bags

Liz, my sister loves Clarins like you, but gosh, I find it too expensive! A friend is suggesting products called Obagi but still so expensive! Maybe later when I'm earning more.

The pollution and hot and humid weather in my country are the reasons why I don't like wearing foundation but only Johnson's baby powder. One sweats a lot here. I like to sweat in sports or belly dance attire but not on the way to work or in work clothes, yuck! But I'll try the light Dove foundation (it says tinted moisturizer here) with SPF that I have here and see how it goes or how I could work around it.
