I LOVE keeping fit and dancing,I am totally addicted, when I get up I am exited to start excercising/conditioning.

I had a day off today-was so hard to have a day off, hardly knew what to do with myself.
I will have a day off when I move too, though I am sure its good for you to have time off every now and then

I am losing weight too.size 10 at the moment ,size 6 is my goal

Personally, I cannot see the need for weight training for dance as in pumping iron, unless of course that is for the intention of controlling weight as part of a larger issue.

I have opted to pursue Iyengar yoga and Pilates, as part of a larger issue, but will help my dance exploits immensely, that I can see now after only a few weeks doing these exercises. If muscle mass building is to be included at some point, I will then go back to isometric training, as in the past this suited me well, that and running.

But personally, I have no particular need for the buff look, as all I want is body awareness and be as flexible and strong as I can be with what I have, toned would be nice, but I will settle for the natural me.

Weight has in the past always been an issue in that I was considered under weight at every time for my age group, I have tried to do what the professionals suggest, but no go, I cannot put on weight, unless I start stuffing out on saturated fats, refined sugar and junk food, which has never been my interest, in fact my diet is a cause for concern at the moment in that I never seem to have an appetite. I eat because I know I have to, then it is stuff like beans, pulses, rice, pasta, fish and stir frys, bread, I eat soya and linseed. I do drink beer, but not enough to cause a problem.

I did my yoga last night, and according to the instructor, I had improved quite a lot since the last time I went, he suspected I had been exercising, I said I had, home pilates, he was disgusted. I told him, there is no way I am going to do Iyengar at home until I am totally happy with the poses, as it is too easy to get it wrong and I have an iffy lower back to watch.

But on the whole, I have found the yoga, pilates and dance drills to compliment each other, the dance moves get easier and more pronounced with the other exercises. The other exercises get more satisfying with the knowledge of how these exercises are enhancing my dance interest.

Why be disgusted you've been doing pilates? Especially when he could see it's aided your yoga? I understand the differences in breathing as part of pilates technique but yoga has plenty of exercises/ways of modifying breath, hardly the time to get territorial about it

I've seen a correlation in my ability to hold plank/side plank/dolphin and especially lowering in to 4 limbed staff and my use of suplementary weight training. I quite understand it isn't for everyone and much will depend on your goals and asthetics.
Good luck with your training.

A lot of instructors seem to find it offensive if you get benefit in one discipline from practicing another. IMHO some people think their take on a given art is best, and if you draw inspiration/skill/development from another, its somehow not right...

Do with what works for you. Mine is still pushing iron and cardio, and now learning BD as well.

Strength and flexibility is what I am after with the body I have, and I will do what I know works for me. My reluctance to do Iyengar method at home is because I have slipped a disc twice in the same place and I certainly do not want that to happen a third time. I will however embark on that yoga method, when I am stronger and know the asanas better, like how to get into and out of them safely. That will come in time, I have in the past caused a problem by doing home exercises incorrectly, it is why I am for the first time taking classes in the disciplines I wish to learn, book learning does not always get things across for all people.

I have researched which exercise disciplines are ideal for me for what I want to do, both pilates and Iyengar yoga are good for life and dance, but dance is a secondary consideration to how I wish to be in myself, I am not doing these exercises for dance alone, but for the wider scheme of things, i.e. me being the best I can be.

I have now started going to my gym's yoga classes regularly... and man! What a rush! I love the poses, some challenging, some relaxing, some just feel damn good!

I kinda skanked the last three days off the gym having gone 11 days in a row. But went back today and I did half an hour on the cross trainer (cus mum kicked me off) then 15 minutes running, then another 15 mins jogging.

I'm quite enjoying this whole gym thing. It's really fun. I did weights and stuff after then sat in the steam room for ten minutes .

I love the ritual of it... and I love taking my time about it

I usually shower at the gym too, and get all clean and fresh and proud of myself by the time I walk outta there
