I use blusher or sometimes a rosy eyeshadow on my eyelid - just under the lighter highlight under my brow (gagh! how can you describe this in words!!!), it is a lovely day look, but too pink or too dark it can look like you've been crying. So it's a look to try out and have a good friend handy who can tell you whether you're looking OK!

The pigments in all our makeup are safe to apply to the face and eyes - it's mainly dirty brushes and applicators that create problems, especially if you share...

If you have a daughter that STEALS YOUR MAKEUP (ggggrrrr!) that can mean you have NONE LEFT FOR YOURSELF, so I recommend having a separate stash just for stage or performance. I've got mine in a kit, so that I know it's not going to HAVE BEEN RUN OFF WITH!!
Get my drift? Nearly 15 year old daughters with a penchant for makeup DON'T RESPECT BOUNDARIES!!!!!

**end of rant**

I like a brand called Studio Gear. It "sticks" but doesn't cause irritation or anything. I use it because my skin is sensitive and haven't had a problem.

My friend has light brown eyes and darker skin than mine and pink/lilac looks fabulous on her, when I try it though I look like my eyes are swollen with some infection...LOL

Great advice Makeda Maysa, adiemus and Farasha Hanem!
That is pretty much what I do for stage makeup as well. I especially echo the false eyelashes thing - they do so much onstage.

I had my makeup done by MAC once for a big gig (Cheb i Sabbah) and they did a FANTASTIC job. One great thing that the makeup artist did was dip the tips of the false lashes in the outer corners in a bit of glue, and then into glitter that matched my costume (teal) - it gave a very subtle (onstage) sparkle and looks really great. I've been meaning to make some that go with my other costumes!

I use Bare Escentuals mineral makeup for both everyday and performance, because my skin likes it way better than the non-natural types. I find it works just fine using those products for stage, I just put way more on (and can apply the powder liner wet etc which is good). However, I would like some MAC products for a bit of extra flair and colour!

I never use lipstick, just gloss - although the other women in my family look great with lipstick on, I look terrible with any colour on my lips! Maybe because they're already quite full...I dunno but lipstick makes me look like a huge dork. Anyone else have that problem??

Makeda's make-up tips are AWESOME!!!!!!!! I live by them. I'm not saying this because she is a fellow troupe member. I always get compliments on how my make-up looks. I even get them from Makeda and I always say " See I listen"

YES! I can get away with natural rosy sort of colours that you can hardly see, but otherwise - dorksville. I thought it was just me, or I was using the wrong colours.

For being on stage our teacher tells us bright red and lots of it, but I suspect I just look like a distant dork.

I am determined to do the lashes one day, they always look so great on stage. But I wimp out every year and just do mega-coats of mascara.

'Dorksville' made me laugh!

Good to know I'm not alone, although I'm sorry you are also afflicted by the lipstick curse. I just can't get it to look anywhere near natural on me, but my sister can put on bright red and look fabulous. I don't get it.

Next time I'm near MAC I think I might just walk in and challenge them to find a colour that looks good on me - maybe we just need professional help?? Or maybe I am just destined for dorksville...

If you can get it in a color that's good on you (mix 2 of them if you have to), try Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage foundation.
Estée Lauder - Official Site: Maximum Cover Camouflage Makeup for Face and Body SPF 15

I tried this the other day and it is awesome! Full coverage, light feel, wore all day. I borrowed my friend's darker foundation, mixed it with a lighter colored one I had from a completely different brand, and it still covered and wore wonderfully. I'm waiting 'til they have another gift with purchase at my local counter, and then I'm getting this!

Somebody mentioned glitter on false eyelashes: I sometimes dip a clear mascara in glitter and then dot that on the tips of my lashes.

If you've tried the glitter on the false eyelashes, what does it look like from a distance? Kashmir was telling us that a group of dancers tried it and it looked as if they were all crying...

When I used it, it wasn't on stage but during the day (I'm just a little edgy in my day makeup sometimes ). And hence was probably more subtle than what the other person here was talking about. But I still can't imagine it looking like crying.
