I really dunno what to do- I always try to apply masks and treatments, but at the moment I am so desperate, that if I had money for hairdresser, I would cut it short!!! Yes and that's after trying to grow it for years! It is really getting more damaged and frayed. I realy would love to have long hair, but if I have to struggle like that every day??? Maybe rather have a short start???

*curles in the corner and cries*

Awww Reen! I just went through the exact same thing. My hair just overdried from the color and heat. It would take me 20 minutes sometimes to comb out the tangles. I ended up cutting 6 inches off. Could you try getting a good haircut? Good luck to you and remember it is just hair and it will grow back

Geez, I've read just the opposite. In fact, the article said if you wear your hair in a ponytail while sleeping, it can cause your hairline to recede.

With this weather in Britain as it is now, hot sun followed by cold, rain and wind, basically the usual 'can't make it's mind up ', type of stuff, I have taken to oiling my hair with olive oil, this helps with retaining moisture and keeps it controllable.

Sleeping, I sleep with loose hair, it goes where gravity defines, and sometimes oil over night, just got to throw the pillow case in the wash in the morning. The hair is fine in the morning, and not really oily.

Perhaps I am being too fastidious, but I do not wash my hair in anything chemical, it has got to be something I recognise as natural, usually Lush products, 'Tramp' in particular, which is melissa, patchouli, horehound, oakmoss and plantain.

Uhm... you have to wear a really tight high ponytail to make your hairline recede. And a ponytail is just as bad as loose hair. I meant sleeping with a braid or bun. Not really tight ofcourse. For me it made a huge difference.

And Kutenurse, getting hair cuts all the time will never help people who are trying to get their hair grow

yeah .... my hair NEVER grew until I stopped cutting it!!!!
critical thinking lesson 101... WHO is telling you this info..???.(in this case "you need to trim off split ends for your hair to "grow".... the hair dressers of course!)
my grandmother ALWAYS slept w/ her long hair in a (loose) braid...
for me (by morning) that is almost as tangly as nothing
if I let my hair down (& it is not even that long anymore) at night, it does get tangled... a LOW bun (now) gives me a neck ache... so I do a high bun w/ a stick... but sometimes turn over and poke the man....
ooooh what IS a girl to do???

I'm growing my hair, and have to plait it into two plaits at night to stop tangles, and have just the tips trimmed every now and then when I notice the ends are split. It's been over a year now since I had it cut and it's great. But I do notice it's quite dry and I'm about to start the olive oil treatment. I notice that the difference in humidity as well as water mineral content changes how my hair is. In Australia, especially in Brisbane I get frizzies, while here in Christchurch, NZ, my hair is more static-y and fly-away.

Ohhhhh.

My problem is I have coarse, fuzzy, curly hair that has a mind of its own. I think people refer to it as "angel hair"? So, no matter how long I grow it, it never looks as long as it really is, unless, ironically, I use hot curlers. I hate to use a straightening iron on my hair, because it breaks easily; sometimes I'll use it on my bangs, but that's pretty much it. Chemical straightening's not an option either; I fried my hair when I was 18 with a chem straightener, and I don't want to do that again.

I almost always let my hair air dry, unless I'm sick, or I have to go out immediately in cold weather. The Garnier Fructis line of hair care products works well for me, plus their products smell nice; I always get complimented on how my hair smells. ^^; Now, if my hair would only do what I want it to, instead of being so disobedient. *starts singing like a Chipmunk* "I had a bad hair day, la, la, la..."

Hi Reen -Glad to see you are safely in UK!

Some old fashioned remedies are an oil treatment (warm a little oil and massage through then wrap your head in a warm towel for 15min before washing the oil out) or an egg shampoo(Do not use hot water to wash the egg out!!!!)
Both these treatments can be repeated every week.
Adding a little vinegar to the water you wash in may also improve the water softness. It is also very good for your scalp as a rinse.
I used to mix a little conditioner with some water to use as a leave in conditioner for my daughter (she has super knotting hair) and I made a point of brushing with a boars hair brush morning and night.

You may want to check the conditioner as theingredients seem to differ from country to country - can't imagine why

Hi girls!

Finally I am back to post here- did not reply to the topic, cos it has been rather painful- geez I do love long hair!

I really tried several measures adviced here- sleeping with a hair braided- it does help a bit, although the hair that tangles most in on top of my head- I guess it was burnt by merciless SA sun...LOL But it did help to some extent.

I tried other things as well-like use shampoo once a week and the other time use only conditioner. Tried to wash hair less- but it gets too greasy.

One thing that DID help was olive oil, one hour treatment did not help at all, however leaving it overnight helped a bit.

Oh and kiewiet welcome back, havent seen you post in a while! LOL Actually the shampoo and conditioner I took with, and they worked very well in SA, but here they stopped working! LOL MUST be the water( Well and stress).

I think I almost made up my mind, Im gonna have to cut it- either shoulder length or shorter, with the idea to let it grow.... After all it does not look nice anyhow...

Thank you everyone for your input, although I did not reply to the topic in a while, I did study the suggestions and I DO appreciate them!!!!

*Huhs to everyone!!!!*
