I am contemplating buying one since Im gonna be moving into a place without a microwave, pots, pans or even kettle...LOL
I was thinking that a steamer would be a healthier and more energy efficiet way to cook than a stove, well besides will cut the need to buy lots of pots and pans at once...lol Anyone had any experience with steamers? *hug*

My steamer fits into one of my pots and works on the stove. I like using it for vegetables, but I can't imagine using it to cook everything. Maybe you could invest in a small microwave to give you a few more options? Where are you moving?

I JUST got a full on stove WITH an oven....
before that, I lived 2 years with just a hotplate, toaster oven & microwave... depends on what you need.... I could cook almost every thing btwn my hotplate & toaster oven... even (small rectangular!) pizza... I think a hotplate would do all a steamer would do, & more... (make sure you UNPLUG them when you are thru... near the end, mine would say it was off but sometimes it stayed on barely warm... dangerous I would think... my husband is saving it (the hotplate) to take it to the range next time he goes shooting ... but I think it werved us very well!!!oh.. & a cast iron skillet is nice w/ the hotplate.. conducts the heat more evenly.... good luck!!! |

But here they got this weird halogen thing.... The other day I went to buy a frying pan and I see that all the pans and pots are rated for different tipe plates, the cheaper one just say gas and electrical, and then more expensive ones also say Halogen.. Anybody knows anything about Halogen? We bout a geyser coffee maker that goes on the plate, but now Im scared to use it- afraid it will damage the plate???? I really have no clue, also - law of attraction in action- I was wanting an electric steamer, and here a friend rocks up with "pans" for the kitchen wich turn out to be a plate-top steamer... ha ha Must be glitch in the matrix, cos I was attracting the electric one... ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyhow, It does not have any marks on it so again I dunno if it safe to use on halogen.... but I definitly want to use it, cos I never boil veggies, I have always microwaved everything without water, quick and healthy.... Thank you for the replies girls! Oh and Im off to Google what is rice steamer.... ![]() ![]() ![]()
