I think the issue is that people with oily skin tend to be quite harsh on the skin, trying to rid it of oil. This is something you should never do. You actually send your skin into oil over-production because you've left it so parched. Using the oil cleansing method regularly, but not too frequently (I do it once a week or so), allows your skin to achieve balance - it's not starving for moisture. Also, since this is a deep clean, it helps to bring festering pimples to head more quickly, so that they will heal, and it helps remove any dirt and makeup that regular cleansing may have left behind.I only leave the thin layer of oil on if I find that my skin has been very parched. Otherwise, after the oil cleansing, I wash with a very gentle cleanser (Cetaphil), use a non-alcohol toner, beta hydroxy and eye cream.

I find that wearing moisturizer cuts down on my pimples. I think the thin film is a "bridge", making it easier for oil to get out of my pores...it is less likely to harden below the surface and form plugs. And of course, my moisturizer is SPF 45, to reduce reddening from the sun and florescent lights. |

I've just been so desperate for so long, I'd convinced myself I was going to have to start spending sick amounts of money on clinical/prescription stuff. I was about to post a link, but Reen seems to have beaten me to it! Great site! I googled African Black Soap....soap made from homemade lye from ashes? Wow! How does it feel? Do you use it everyday? ![]() Tim'ema |

Dudu-Osun African Black Soap Actually, old-fashioned soaps did use mild lye(naturally derived) and fat. It's not a harsh soap at all! It leaves my skin feeling lean and refreshed...not dry. We use it daily, because it leaves no residue. I do agree that we spend ungodly amounts of money on cleansers/toners etc with hard to pronounce chemical names. There are natural alternatives available. I'll never buy an expensive cleansing cream again! Have you ever seen pictures of ordinary people from Africa, Asia and the Middle East? Do you see how clear and blemish free their faces are? It sure didn't come from a bottle of Clinique!!! Yasmine

The best soap I ever used for controlling breakouts, was a sulpher soap. Of course, it smelled awful. |

I have some cleanser and moisturizer for intolerant skin that I get from my doctor's skin specialist (I think it is called Toleuraine), and the doc also prescribes topical erthromyacin (which I no doubt spelled wrong) which comes in a little bottle on pads. Works well so far. I think I've been using this combination for two or three years and except for a rosier complexion than many people, I manage to look normal.

Lean, flexible, strong bodies; clear, healthy skin; strong, straight, white teeth....how the human body was meant to be. My area of Canada is FINALLY experiencing spring weather (can you believe it SNOWED about 5cm here on April 21st?!?!?), so I'm hoping more exercise and fresh food is on the horizon! That can't hurt, eh? ![]() Tim'ema |

This is really interesting. I have oily skin and I find myself in the bathroom in front of a mirror wiping the oil up with kleenex and reapplying powder makeup. My daily regime is the clinique 3 step...Wash with their soap, toner and moisturizer. I might try this idea.
