There are a lot of reasons that someone might lose weight that have nothing to do with working out. I tend to lose weight more because of stress than exercise or diet. I lost 20 lbs seemingly overnight many years ago when I broke up with my partner, and again more recently, when my mother died. Another life change that can cause temporary weight loss is changing ones' diet. I don't mean dieting, I just mean something like suddenly turning vegan. I say temporary weight loss because the body adjusts and weight seems to slowly come back. Studies have shown, just as you mentioned that some people are just meant to be a certain weight and focus should be on health not weight. Marya |

Marya-
I agree. During my divorce last year I was suddenly 160. I wasn't caring about it much then, due to stress and sadness. I think that even though 'health' is the obvious reason, with the best intentions, it tends to slide on back to thinness and vanity purposes.

Both extremes are worrying,on one end of the spectrum I know people who will tell me that they have been "really good today and only eaten three grapes" and on the other a girl (who was around 17lbs at 20) telling me she could not be bothered to eat anything but mc donalds and felt exercise was for wierdos. Both these attidudes seem to be increasingly popular and dangerous
