oh 30. my 30th went by without me noticing. you know time flies, and a few days later i was like wait a second... its weird how young you feel even as you pass certain "benchmarks". i always say i look way younger than 33, but my sis claims the same about herself . haha. oh ...well you're only as young as you feel. and i feel better now in the 3-0's than i ever did. and back to this topic, in all honesty, if i were to make a mental list of all the things i would like to change about myself, it would be long. real long. and unless i hit the jackpot, i'm stuck. and there are times, when yes i'm very unhappy with my figure, but on the flip side i am very happy with what my fitness has allowed me to accomplish in my life. and for that, i take the exchange. |

I will be .... wait... let me do the math.... 43 next saturday.... & for the past year... i have gained a LOT of weight... luckily I am super tall & used to look like a fashion model (too bad did not appreciate that THEN!!!) but now I finally look like a WOMAN!!!! wheeeeee.... & yes I soo go back & forth with feeling like a cow (oops I AM a Taurus... so this is OK ... no?? )... & being sooo happy in my body.... I LOVE my body... & ALL it can do... I am (finally) a poster child(???hehehe) for a "normal" woman... BUT... on the down side.... my knees are starting to hurt, & none of my bras fit... bad enough if they were just victoria's secret expensive bras... but my BELLY DANCE BRAS.... this my folks is a TRAGEDY of the MOST EXPENSIVE kind.... so (sorry to be so shallow..... I want to do it for bras, not health.. well except for my knees!) I really must lose (oh NO the WEIGHT thing again!!!) about 20 lbs... to have a good body image.... (that would take me down to the weight I was 2 hours AFTER having my 1st child, (after which I PROMPTLY lost another 25 lbs... but then I was 19)... right now I weigh what I did 2 hours after the 3rd one (which again I promptly lost 25 lbs!)... ooops sorry math (the only things I remember have to do w/ the children.. SORRY).... so what I am trying to say is I do NOT want to look like I did when I was 19.... but 35 (& 2 months post birth) was not soooo bad... (plus I just want my costumes to fit & my knees not to hurt (from the extra weight)... & yes this IS soooo shallow... but, as somebody (or several??) said above... we must clean up our OWN backyards in order to help others... (like on the airplanes.... "adults... put YOUR oxygen mask on 1st... THEN help your children") |

I'm one of those people who likes aging. I'm just fine with being 30. Though I have had the thought 'oh crap, I'm going to be 30, I better start acting like a grownup!'
![]() I dig the way I look, pretty much. All the boys with R Crumb fantasies like me. ![]()

R Crumb was an underground comic book artist in the sixties. He was the inspiration for the Grateful Dead 'Keep on Truckin' images. I think everyone in his family is an artist.
His stuff was extremely sexual, so be forewarned, but here is a page of some of his drawings of women (not all of them are sexual in nature, but some are; just giving a heads up). For him, the ideal woman was big; so much so that these pictures are 'idealized' in the R Crumb fashion: that is, drawn much bigger than they are in real life. Click on the face with glasses at the top, and then the 'Girls' link at the top of the page. The R Crumb Family Art Gallery

I think as far as weight/confidence issues go, the saying 'you are your own worst enemy' is soooo true. As long as your weight isn't a health issue and you are happy with yourself, that is the most important thing. I believe that you have to really love yourself before you are really able to love other people - ok, getting philosophical here. And not shallow egotistical love - the conceited generally have the most self-esteem problems anyway, but real appreciation for everything you've been through, and all the good and kind things you've done in your life. (Can you tell I'm secretly a big hippie??)
Also, one of the most beautiful women I know is one that could be categorized as obese - but I have never seen another woman carry herself with the dignity and respect that she does, and one day I hope I can do the same.
