Alright ladies, I need some help. What clips etc. do you use to keep a flower (behind the ear) to stay put? My hair is very straight and slick and I've not found how to keep the flower in place. Any suggestions?

Salome,
I have short, straight and fine hair and wear flowers all the time as I do quite a bit of tribal fusion. I found that bobbypins just don't hold things in place, so I use those little flat barrettes that snap open and closed....what do you call those.....? But first, I spray my hair with hairspray in order to create some friction so that those will stay, otherwise they slide right out. |

I agree with gilana, but I usually do not use hair spray because as I do not wash my hair every day but only once in three days (it is very dry and shampoo dries them out even more) and I just don't like to keep sprays and such products in there. So instead I tease the hair a little bit, not too much but just a bit and only in the place where you want to put on the flower. Like this, the pin has somewhere to hold on and won't slip. But if you put in spray anyway then you might want to do as Gilana says because spray holds longer than just teasing without fixation.

I don't shampoo my hair every day either, just get it wet, so don['t usually have problems with build-up of hairspray. Have also tried teasing, but since my hair is so fine, it doesn't hold. Spray seems to be my only option.

hmmm well I don't have a roach clip handy. Those little snap barrettes that snap open and closed are not working for me because the flower stem plus hair is too much and it won't close. Maybe I ought to look for a toupee clip... |

Superglue is the only thing that would work to keep flowers or anything else in my hair, and I don't recommend that.
You can buy brand new shiny alligator clips at an automotive store. If you are really determined, you could get some very fine fabric-covered florist's wire and wire the darn flowers into a braided strand of hair. |

LOL, Shanazel! I almost said the same thing as Superglue is my favorite repair or construction tool.
My husband will never let me forget that when he met me I had a coffee table that I had to put together myself, and rather than use the screws they gave me that didn't work, I Superglued it together! |

Stolen from a post on Tribe, by a woman called "Sugar"
" I have super short hairs (The longest spot is about 2 1/2 inches) and I use a couple of methods. I usually start by hot gluing the flowers to a piece of felt. The I make a little flap on the back to thread a bobby pin through. Then I backcomb the spot I want to pin it to and pin it in in a couple of directions. Also you can do the little flap thing and use an alligator clip. Or sometimes I glue them to the felt and them stitch a wig clip on the back and then do the backcombing and stick it in my hair. Those things hold on the the finest of fine hair. You can find them pretty cheap on ebay." How to attach flowers to hair? - Makeup and Hair for Dancers - tribe.net |
