Ewwww no bellydance six packs. Ew.

Look, I want to be fit, and because I was a fighter, I want to be muscular. But I do not want 'flat abs'. I like the dancer's tummy I have.

Who is the OP? A bellydancer or someone who has taken it on themselves to help that poor chubby bellydance community to get flat abs? Ah, the miracles of the West, and what it makes women think they are supposed to look like.

Crap on so many levels, where to start?

(heavy sigh)

1. Flat abs come from ultra low body fat, not from abdominal exercises. If you are a total couch potato with no core strength, then yes, to the degree that ab exercises allow you to stand up straight and have good posture, they can make you look somewhat slimmer. But belly dancers already have significant abdominal strength. Doing more ab training may be good for many other reasons, but it is not going to "flatten our bellies".

2. No such thing as spot reduction. Ab exercises won't "burn belly fat". If you have too much belly fat, you need to eat less and exercise more, but you can't control where the fat gets reduced.

3. As you can see from the other replies, belly dancers don't want ripped six packs. Then again see#1 -- ripped six packs come from ultra low body fat, not muscle-building exercises.

4. Most women have at least a small pad of fat on the lower tummy. Therefore, for most women, the bottom of the 6 pack will not be fat-free enough to allow muscle definition to show until her overall body fat is dangerously low -- as in less than 10%. Not good.

Why did you post this, anyway?

I like a flat toned tiummy, but no six pack, I prefer the long muscles that develop as a result of our dance, The rippled six pack looks to masculine!!
