Oh Bellyqueen, it is a shame that your instructor is no longer there. But I think you are doing a good job by studying from books and internet. There is a thread about how to study from the dvd's or video clips some where. Check it out and it is very useful. I don't know where you live? Are there any teachers nearby that you can travel to once or twice a month and take few classes in one go. Yes, there is heaps of material available on the net but unfortunately there is no substitute for a live teacher. Don't be disappointed, I am sure you will find a way.

You are starting very early in life with belly dance! Keep the faith that a new teacher will come along for you. In the meantime, find yourself some good dvds instead of depending on the internet for instruction- there are some very weird things out there. At least a couple of threads on the forum are devoted to favorite dvds of different people. Take a look at the comments made about each dvd and decide which appeals to you most. And keep an eye peeled for new teachers! Good luck.
(Looks like Janaki and I answered at the same time, so I am redundant again!) |

Belly Dancing -- Art Of Middle Eastern Dance -- Bellydancing in Iowa City has a couple of articles on learning via videos and structuring your practice sessions that might be of help to you.

don't worry about the instructor. how old are you? I am 38 and just started last year! and on top two weeks ago had an accident and broke my knee! but I do not give up.
through videos and believing I can do it you can also make it! ![]() |

See if you get the money together to travel to any workshops or festivals that may be accessable.
Do you have friends who would like to belly dance. Get together in a group and you can maybe invite a teacher to come to you everyso often. Look on websites Wiggle - Find a local Bellydance Class in the UK., nada and mosiac dance organistaions and orientaldancer.net's own for your nearest teacher or you can PM and let me know your location and I can see if there is anyone you have missed. |

i have a teacher, but i also learn from dvds, and that's not a problem at all, some are very good explained. but sometimes a teacher can be useful to correct you.
in the meantime, don't worry, you'll find another teacher, keep on practising, you have a lot of time...
