Hi Mariyam,
I also think if I lose some of the extra weight it will help a lot. I know the extra weight can't be good for my heel. Tammy PS: Have you thought about buying dance sneakers, orthotics might fit in a dance sneaker. I have been wearing the dance sneaker bloch, which help me to be able to dance again. Quote:

I've had relief already just from the helpful suggestions here. I've been wearing shoes all the time. I was tending to go barefoot as often as possible assuming that would help. I've also been stretching my feet a lot and that has helped too. Chani |

In regards to orthotics, I don't have any, actually. But it also helps that I'm actually not dancing this year (long story!) |

I might second the circulatory diagnosis. Plantar Fasciitis engages primarily the beginning of the heel (kinda just past the middle point of the bottom of the foot), while circulatory problems can make the entire bottom of the foot hurt like you ran a mile on concrete in bare feet. My feet used to be so bad it was all I could do to hobble from the bed to the bathroom until they warmed up sometimes.
Chani, is the pain you're feeling all over the bottoms of your feet, or just in the middle heel part? I have PF, too, and, though the ache is very different, they both stink. Losing weight, exercising and eating better has definitely helped. Especially the losing weight part (25 pounds so far). When I was first diagnosed with PF - in my right foot only - the army docs wanted to do surgery due to its severity (I, too, waited a loooonnnngg time before seeing them), but until I simply can't walk on it anymore, there's no way I'm letting anyone cut into my foot. Currently, both problems are pretty much managed. My feet never ache in the mornings (what a blessing!), and my heel only acts up if I stay on it a terrifically long time. Whatever the diagnosis turns out to be, I wish you the best, Chani! Anything that endangers our ability to dance is a big deal! A.C.

Chani,
I noticed that no one brought up going to a podiatrist. I cant remember where it is you live, but I am certain that your normal GP can give you a referral to one. A podiatrist does nothing but feet and all of the things that go with them. Also, you may want to put in a quick call to a larger dance company and ask who they use, since that person will be more familiar with all of the glorious things that dancers do to their feet, and the particular toll it takes. With regards to your asthma issue, I'll have to go back and find what meds you are taking, I think I have an idea. Robynne |

Hi Auntie Crazy,
I agree that it's a combo of both of these problems you mention. I am not overweight, I exercise a lot and for a long time I have had a very healthy diet. I expect the problems I am having now stem from carrying babies and being on my feet so much and now dancing. I don't have a car and walk/cycle everywhere. Our shops are 1 hour away on foot along a bush track and I often carried my babies in slings even when they were as old as 3yo. My clue that this is one of the causes of the problem is that my left foot is much worse and that is the side that I carried them on. I find that the pain is equally in the heel and the front padding of the foot and sometimes all of my toes ache too. On a positive note I have treated myself to Orthopedic shoes for Christmas and they are wonderfully comfortable and are helping. Homey Peds have come a long way since my nana wore them and my new shoes are pretty and trendy - crimson with leopard print details - I love them. Chani |

Hi Robynne, I'm in Sydney, Australia. That is a great idea about asking my local dance companies who they use for foot probs. The medications I'm on are for athma and are Ventolin (I rarely have to use this) and Flixotide (which I use daily). I really don't like taking them and try to wean myself off regularly. I do okay but inevitably a virus will come along and will set me back and I'll have to up the meds to avoid pneumonia. The reason I am suspicious is that I had never a problem with my feet until I started taking these medications. Actually, I didn't have any problems with my lungs at all for 36 years until I got very run down, got pneumonia (which I had had once at age 12) and landed in hospital where they gave me massive amounts of antibiotics and steroids including Prednesone. My goal is to be completely drug free but as a busy Mum I have to breath YK? Chani |

i would think it would be related to poor circulation. especially if it is the first pain in the morning. its like when you lay down and your leg falls asleep, you cant hardly stand on it until blood flow resumes 100%.
plus if it acts up after increasing medication it might have something to do with your meds. tell the doc and when you go in take your shoes that you usually wear because they may be too old, too worn, and not as good for your feet as you think... plus he can actually look at where the weight is on your feet. make a list of observations. pain starts here, what activity preceded it, etc etc. dont get something in your head about what is wrong because i think you can steer a doctor, a general practitioner into a wrong diagnosis, just give him the facts but i'm sure you know this. but then again i just dont trust my doctor, in fact he is being sued right now. not by me, by a dead guy. yes thats right a dead guy...? and i think it has been revealed he is not even certified properly to practice medicine. well anyway, keep us posted. probably shouldnt have mentioned malpractice or misdiagnosis leading to death. well i'm sure its nothing so serious. p.s. on the subject of feet has anyone tried the kinoki foot patches? its not for feet its for detoxing the body. sounds interesting i want to try it but i figure it is a scam. why not put the patch on the back of your neck, would it not work there too? |
