Default Good wigs?

I'm looking for a good wig (because I need one to have short hair once in a while) that looks natural and isn't too expensive.
I wonder if wigs of real hair are less hott to wear then synthetic ones (I don't want my head to get awfully sweaty!). Does anyone know?

All I remember from my theater days is that it's the cap the hair is sewn onto that makes a difference -- if it's not a material that "breathes," it feels like you're wearing a bathing cap.

A fall works better -- you attach it to your real hair, like on the back of your head. Real hair is more expensive than synthetic, but good synthetic is very hard to tell from real. You can ask a hairdresser where to get a good one and how to wear it.

A fall won't work, as I need to have a fringe with the wig. I know a place where I can buy good human hair wigs, but was just wondering if synthetic would be lighter weight or maybe less hot (however I guess human hair would be better)

You won't know until you personally compare 'em, but as good synthetic is supposed to mimic human hair so I doubt you'll feel much of a difference. Again, it seems to be the cap the hair is attached to, more than the hair itself.

At first I wanted to start a new thread but since I think that my question is related to this topic, I'il post it here:
My hair is thin by nature, but it was not a problem for me until this year - due to stress from last year's extremely difficult academic programme, I lost quite a lot of hair. I have done a treatment during summer which helped wonders but the hair that is gone is gone and I need to wait untill it grows back. So I had to cut my hair shorter to make it look fuller after all the hair loss. Problem is, I am dreaming of a long mane. So I have considered clip-on (reusable...like a kind of haire piece...) real hair extensions. I have found a shop where they sell them for a very reasonable price and they really look real, nice and soft and they have like all different colours and all.
But I wanted to ask you, whether you have any experience with clip-on extensions. Won't they put stress on my own hair by their weight and cause them to fall out again? Do they hold (I mean...bellydancer's question: can I dance in them? lol)?
(coz of course the shop wants to sell them so they sing all kinds of songs to me, but I want some real objective opinions)
THANK YOU

Ranya, my best advice is to ask a good hairdresser, someone you trust. He/she can look at your hair and scalp and ask questions and then make the best recommendations based on what you have.

But, yes, the longer the piece, the heavier it will be. The more it bounces around, the more pull and tug on your scalp. You might consider starting out with something shorter. Or perhaps you can use something like a beautiful headwrap with the extensions attached to the underside, not your head.

Hi Kharmine, thank you very much for your advice. The thing is I considered doing that but the one and only hairdresser I trust so far is in Slovakia and will not go there until the end of december. That is why I posted it here, lol, coz you guys always have the answer (or there always is at least ONE who has). But you really made a good point.

The extension I am considering are not that long, I don't want them to make my hair much longer (I had my own hair cut shorter but it is still what one would consider relatively long...simply shorter as it was before) , just fuller as it is now, because it drives me nutts (and the worse is, school's almost as hard this year, grrrrr, some more stress).

Ranya, maybe you should check with your doctor: it's possible it has something to do with your diet as well. When you have a lot of stress your body will need more of certain nutrigients (spelling?). Good luck!

Yes I actually did a treatment this summer but as my diet is mostly healthy the reason for the hair loss was stress and I was given some vitamins that will tackle the stress hormone's impact on my hair once it should start again.
But I guess it won't happen anymore, looks right at the moment. Just makes me a bit annoyed that now I have to wait that the lost hair grows again, which will take ages, as my hair before was a good 40cm lenght. sniff! ;-(
