Big Grin Getting fit/losing weight, lets do it together!

Hello everyone

Well I've gone and done it, I joined the local gym. I am really bouyed up about it and just wanted to share it.
I'm a complete novice, never set foot in one before. Doesn't that sound terrible, I've never had the time before with a young family but I decided I needed to lose weight and tone up and I've tried all sorts of things but nothing seems to work, so I took the plunge on my own to do it and I have to say, I really enjoyed it.

What's happening to me, I'm possessed, words like excercise and dancing were words that never came out of my mouth when I was younger but now it seems like I can't get enough (not that you would think that with my figure).

Has this happened with anyone else? It seems like I've just woke up from a really long sleep and suddenly I'm finding out who I really am.
Or is it a mid life crisis?

Any way if it is at least I haven't gone crazy or maybe I have?

Just a light conversation, anyone want to join in.

We could give each other pep talks.

Well, wanting to look good in my new costume has inspired me to *gasp* count calories! And I've been trying to keep up with my non-dancing workouts, too. I've been considering joining a gym, because I have no AC, and exercising with a video in front of the TV makes me uncomfortably hot.

Hi da Sage/MiaMi

Snap, that was partly my reason too, I have a top that I would love to wear but too self concious of the tummy and flabby arms.
I've tried the home things and jogging and doing weight work and counting calories etc but I think it didn't work for me was because I got to easily distracted, I can't turn the phone off because of the work it brings in, the children etc so this way I go to the gym and that is it, I make the most of the time I have there because there are no distractions and the amount of money it cost, I make sure I get my moneys' worth. I can use the pool , the gym or the excercise classes or all of them if I had the energy.

Thanks MiaMi , I hope to be able to proudly post pics of me when I've lost some inches and able to get in that top.

Loosing weight and getting in shape is one of the many reasons I'm looking at belly dancing. I'm not a small girl thanks to my diabeties -_- so loosing a bit of weight an tightening up some of my muscles will be great for me. An my my bf, as well as my horse a bit happier! meaning neither have to carry my big butt!

good luck on yalls own work!

ooh this is so exiting,I am losing weight too.

this inspires me:

#1: Always think positive. Squash all negative thoughts. Monitor
your thoughts. Be aware of your self-talk. We all talk to ourselves, a
lot, but we are not always aware of these thoughts. Start listening. If
you hear negative thoughts, stop them, push them out, and replace them
with positive thoughts. Positive thinking can be amazingly powerful.

#2: Make a big public commitment. Be fully committed. This
will do the trick every time. Create a blog and announce to the world
that you are going to achieve a certain goal by a certain date. Commit
yourself to the hilt.

#3: Create a friendly, mutually-supportive competition.We
are all competitive in nature, at least a little. Some more than
others. Take advantage of this part of our human nature by using it to
fuel your goals. If you have a workout partner or goal buddy, you’ve
got all you need for a friendly competition. See who can log more
miles, or save more dollars, each week or month. See who can do more
pushups or pullups. See who can lose the most weight or have the best
abs or lose the most inches on their waist. Make sure the goals are
weighted so that the competition is fairly equal. And mutually support
each other in your goals.

#4: Keep a daily journal of your goal.If you are consistent about keeping a journal, it can be a great
motivator. A journal should have not only what you did for the day, but
your thoughts about how it went, how you felt, what mistakes you made,
what you could do to improve. To be consistent about keeping a journal,
do it right after you do your goal task each day. Make keeping a journal a sensory pleasure.

#5: Visualize your goal clearly, on a daily basis, for at least 5-10 minutes. Visualize your successful outcome in great detail.
Close your eyes, and think about exactly how your successful outcome
will look, will feel, will smell and taste and sound like. Where are
you when you become successful? How do you look? What are you wearing?
Form as clear a mental picture as possible. Now here’s the next key: do it every day. For at least a few minutes each day. This is the only way to keep that motivation going over a long period of time.

#6: Make it a rule never to skip two days in a row. This
rule takes into account our natural tendency to miss days now and then.
We are not perfect. So, you missed one day … now the second day is upon
you and you are feeling lazy … tell yourself NO! You will not miss two
days in a row! Zen Habits says so! And just get started. You’ll thank
yourself later.

Dear Miss shimmy,
I am fat as a house... can I do this without the journal part?? All the rest seems pretty doable. I have gained, like, 10,0000 or so pounds since my mid-40s, ( at least I LOOK like it!!)
Regards,
A'isha

ALL of Miss SHimmy's ideas are fab.... but this one goes well w/ the title of the thread!
so who wants to have a "competition" between us???
& what should it be???
& what will we "win" (besides strength & confidience???)
I personally "fell off the wagon" & gained 5-7 pounds the past month (actually my class ended for summer.... 4 hours of bellydance a week... replaced with nothing!)......
right now I am SOOOOO sick but expect to bounce back in a day or 2.... so my mind is a bit foggy/soggy!.....
but I think my goal needs to be to lose 10lbs by 8/8!
I know HOW.... just need to get off my butt & do it!!!!?
(& maybe (hint/hint/hint) a "work-out"/weight loss buddy to keep me on track/accountable)!!!!
who wants to put in a goal for 8/8?????
& what will it be?!?
