Auntie,
Dont forget that if your water intake was far less than usual, those 2 pounds may simply be water retention. I fluctuate 3 high and 3 low, and its very nearly always related to my water consumption. Well, that and that time of the month. But if I can rule that out, its normally always a water issue. |

Are you saying that my "water weight" goes up when I lower my water intake below optimum levels? That's pretty interesting. I knew that water weight can fluctuate and that salt and diet have some kind of impact on it, but not much more.
I'm working on my strength training program now (ow, ow, ow, but hurts oooohhhh sooooo gooooddddd *grin*) and drinking lots of water to compensate for the sweating, but it's quite possible that the week before the showcase, I missed my water intake mark, maybe even by a large percentage. Thanks, Nightdancer.

*nods* It does it even more if your body is accustomed to having adequate hydration, and then you miss the mark for a few days. It basically goes into "panic mode". "Sergeant Kidney, we have no water. You will initiate "Operation Hoard" until supply convoy gets here." (You're prior service, too. I totally understand if no one finds that funny but me and you)
If the scale is tipped up a touch more than it should be, that is always my first question. (That and "How much of the ice cream did I really eat...?") |

Aye, yup, that definitely made me smile!
Just wanted to update everyone (mostly to share, but also to help keep myself motivated by making all y'all "accountability" partners *grin*): I'm wicked blessed to have a gym and certified trainers on location at work (not to mention a massage therapist who comes in twice a month - love her!!!!). Today is the start of week 2 on a new strength training program consisting of both free weights and equipment for arms, shoulders, back and legs, along with ab and quad work on the stability ball, step-ups, and lower-back floor-work. I'm totally lovin' it! I specifically asked the trainer to incorporate exercises to strengthen my lower back and the muscles that support my knees so I could become a stronger belly dancer. She quirked an eyebrow, but did as I asked. In a very promising start - I lost two pounds the first week! I'll keep y'all updated. Miranda

I have always been petite and quite small, and while I still am, to my horror I gained 6 pounds in 2007....I keep hoping it is due to extra muscle...but sadly, think it is due to all the chocolate I consume at my desk during tax season

greetings all! Feel happy because here I join in to tell you that I gained around 26 pounds this year! YAY! The first half of 2007 was EXTREMELY stressful followed by a VERY inactive summer and now an intense but still-sitting autumn. gain,gain,gain... I've joined a gym and I'm going there right NOW. Hope for the best for me, will you?

Dear Gisela,
We most certainly do empathize and we hope for the very best for you. I am trying to decide if maybe I am just too short for my weight. I should probably be about 6 and a half feet tall, I pretty sure. Regards, A'isha |

Hi all, me again! : )
If you're having trouble, don't give up, ok? Sometimes it takes a lot of moving before the weight starts dropping. With so many folks disappointed in their progress, I feel kinda guilty for my update today. But being able to tell folks is part of my incentive, you know? *deep breath* So here goes..... I'm pleased to say I've successfully completed two weeks on my new program. I'm DELIGHTED to say I've lost four pounds and an inch each off my waist and hip AND dropped my body fat percentage by a full point. Here's me doing the happy dance.... ![]() If I can keep this up, I'll have exceeded my goal long before the recital arrives. ![]() Also, not directly related, but still happy-dance making - I received no less than three compliments in my belly dance class yesterday AND I had someone ask one of my sisters and I which of us was the elder.... *cough* I am, by a full eight years. Needless to say, my sis was not amused, not even slightly. But for me, yesterday was a pretty nice day. *grin* Miranda
