Dear Miss Shimmy, I plan to print out your list and see if I can work on those techniques!! I will try for one month and see what happens. Thanks for the Tips... much more sensible than a strict diet to try to change one's attitude!! Regards, A'isha |

Awesome thread and great ideas!
Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park in the the far end of the parking lot at the store. Walk to work if you can, or to the store. Keep busy at home and don't be a couch potato. Here are a few things we can all work on. |

I'm trying to stay on the low end of carb consumption and to exercise at least an hour a day -- the hardest thing has been to try to have a regular exercise schedule. No matter how determined I am, it always seems that events conspire to squeeze out the exercise time!
One thing that has helped me from gaining, however, is to make positive substitutions in my food choices -- such as eating more salad and fewer bread products -- drinking more water throughout the day to feel full and flush out toxins, and not eating after 8 p.m. when metabolism slows down. You ladies inspire me -- I'm hereby setting a goal of losing 10 pounds by the first of August! It's a do-able figure if I really focus on it, and not let things slide as I have been.

I have discovered I can exercise all I want and my appetite keeps pace with the increase in calorie demand. I lost 17 pounds while I was sick because I could barely eat anything at all. Took me about two weeks of improving health to put 12 pounds of it back on, thus proving once again: STARVATION DIETS DONT WORK (whether they are voluntary or not). ![]() Okay. I'll take the Kharmine challenge (not that she issued one) and see if I can manage to go down by ten pounds before I wend my way to Boulder later this summer. Weeellll, maybe seven pounds. Odd numbers sound so much more do-able than even. Last edited by Shanazel; 06-29-2007 at 12:35 AM. |

All of you wonderfull people are an inspiration to me. After the Hafla, seems I am in a slump. I think , ok now what? My instructor said to take a piece of music and create a dance. So that is my goal for august. After joining Weight Watchers 3 years ago (menopause, was not kind to me), I learned a few tricks to shake up my metabolism, and it works. Balance all foods, but rearrange them for a week. Weight gain isn't the issue for me,I need a goal to work towards. You guys are huge motivater to me. Thanks!!!!
Be blessed |

Dear Shanazel, I lost 10 pounds in 6 months, but have put 2 back on. I am just having so much trouble. I might take the challenge to take off 1/4th of a pound in a month.... if dehydration can be counted as a weight loss factor!! ( Dear Miss Shimmy, please do not think of this as negative self-talk!!) Hi everyone
![]() Miss Shimmys' advice about the goal really works. I want to wear my new belly dance top that came with my skirt and look good in it and I think about that when I'm on the gym machines almost gasping for breath and I do those last few minutes that I think I can't do. Plus my husband has promised me one of everything from a website he happened upon. I don't know what those one of everything were, and maybe I don't want to know ![]() but the materialistic side of me went OOOHHHHHHHHHhhh! Also I would like to wear a bikini on the yachting trip we plan to take when the children are older and if I don't get sorted now I don't think I will have the will power. I picture myself on the yacht in my bikini, slim and tanned. Part of the attraction of going to the gym is to have some time away from my really busy life, no phones, no children, no tv. WONDERFUL! I don't want to lose weight, I want to lose inches. My goal is, by the end of the summer to have gone down at least one dress size. I'm an english 18 now. What is yours? Lets cheer each other on. ![]() Wiggly |

I'm a U.S. dress size 12 -- which wouldn't look that bad if I was a few inches taller! Would like to lose a size and slim the torso, a challenge as I'm insulin-resistant.
Everyone's idea of success if gonna be a little bit different, but if we don't get too ambitious it should be do-able. Remember to drink lots of water -- means more trips to the loo, but improves the complexion, helps you feel full and means you won't retain what you don't need!
