Dear Mark,
I seem to have a vague memory of myself fleeing from the room as my 54 year old, chubby body refused to cooperate with either one of us during the warm-up. I went into the hall and did deep breathing excersizes and a little snacksersize as I recall.
Love,
A'isha, the dancer who is afraid of multi-dimensional warm-ups!!

I have recently figured out that I can eat whatever I want in moderation, keep up a moderate exersize regimen of dancing and walking, and manage to lose weight. For me, it would seem the exersize is more important than what I eat, for some reason. The problem with that is you have to keep doing more and more excercize. Also, I hate doing it so much except for dancing, that I actually can not figure out how to spell the darn word right now. I have to get my walking togs on here in a minute and I am dreading it. I have lost 4 1/2 lbs in the last three weeks. I am dubious but hopeful that my plan is working.
REgards,
A'isha
Thank you, A'isha, I appreciate your encouraging words. I'm 4 feet 9 inches, and weigh 112 pounds, and kind of feel that maybe I'm about 12 pounds too much; it seems like even a little bit of weight gain overwhelms my small frame (my wedding ring size is 2 1/4, and I wear a size 2 1/2 in children's shoes ). Like I've mentioned before, my belly "blip" seems to make me a target for well-meaning but rather insensitive comments by customers at my work place: "Oh, you're just so cute in your condition!" "When are you due?" "Are you pregnant?" If I look pregnant, then I must be overweight somewhat.

Default weight

Dear Newbie,
It might be just a matter of toning your muscles. The one thing that belly dance is totally good for as far as an excersize form is toning!!
Regards,
A'isha

as I have uhhhhhhmmm "aged" I notice I do better with "multi-dimensional" warm-DOWNS...... as in AFTER my body is WARM I can do better at the intensive stretches AS WELL AS the more scary exercises..... so before dancing (& in the conditioning classes I teach)... warm UPs are like 5 (10 in winter) minutes of walking steps/slow EVEN shimmies... stuff like that....
then the class goes into more intensive (but not too stretchy yet!!!) 3/4 shimmies/etc..... (more areobic stuff)... then as the class progresses..... more & more strength & then stretch oriented.....
wheeeee.... 4 1/2 lbs in 3 wks... keep up the good work.... I am jealous@!!!

Dear Belly_dancer,
Thanks for the vote of confidence!!
Yes, I was born in the year of the Snake in Chinese Horoscope. Lots of 3s in my birthday!! 03-03-1953 on the third day of the week!! Pisces, Cancer rising, 3 Aries planets and 3 Libra planes, some other stuff... I forget what.
Regards,
A'isha

You should look up the famous Nejla Ates, a Turkish belly dancer from the 1950s. There's a video of her on YouTube and in our Video category. I believe she was tiny, too. She appeared on a number of the cheesecakiest record album covers ever seen, including Mohammad El-Bakkar's famous "Port Said."

I don't know if I'm too late to join this or not, but I'd like to jump in if that's ok.

I saw my doctor today and, believe it or not, gave me a perscription for the gym

Apparently I get a personal trainer that will help me with healthy eating etc as well as exercise. I'm aiming for 10lbs by New Year.

Congrats, girl! That's terrific!

Was there anything else you did that was helpful?
