That clip is from one of the videos in Suhaila Salimpour's Bellydance Fitness Fusion series. You can buy them from Natural Journeys - Fitness DVDs, Videos, and more! or tons of other places (I've even seen them in a grocery store).

LMAO...literally...
I loved that clip! I was introduced to this exercise by Rachel Brice in a workshop...but I never did it after, really didn't strike me as something I needed...
But I was curious...so I just ran into my mirrored studio and I am positively ELATED that I can actually DO this and my movements looked HUGE!!! Everyone should try this at home and see...it's very cool!

Rachel got the glute squeeze exercise from Suhaila- I know, because I've taken a number of classes with Suhaila, and seen Rachel there a couple of times. Suhaila is one of Rachel's main teachers, and mine as well.

The exercises are great, and are the basis for the best shimmies of all, the glute squeeze shimmies. Suhaila is the queen of glute isolations, in fact of just about any isolations, which is why her layering is the best.

I teach these exactly the way she is doing them. Try starting in straddle on the floor, just like she is doing them. Then try layering other movements on them: down to up undulations, up to down undulations, rib cage circles in different tempo, etc. Then stand up and try to shimmy with the glutes, at the same time doing snake arms and undulations. Or a glute shimmy with exterior hip circles. Or a grapevine with 3/4 glute squeeze shimmies and rib cage locks.

My students usually giggle at first when I lead them through glute squeezes. It doesn't take long until their embarrassed smiles and giggles are replaced with intense concentration.

A lot of students don't last at Suhaila's school- her training is just too intense.
