I've studied Eqyptian caberet and folkloric and some Flamenco. By the way, Flamenco is danced alot with a fairly bent leg to get a good sound with all the stamping around that they do. ( stamping around is a technical term, ya know

)
I'm just starting to get interested in tribal forms and am going to a practice tomorrow for a tribal dance troop in my area. Whee! As far as squats go, I really overdid them with the DVD and was sore for days afterwards, not really realizing how much 'more' doing that was than doing my leg extensions in weight lifting. I won't abandon doing them but now I'm S..L..O..W..L..Y working up to the amount on the video.
I like to push myself physically, but maybe this is because I've been away from dance for awhile and I let myself go so much with depression and stress over the past few years. I didn't feel like 'me' anymore and I want 'me' back. you know?
