Default Belly dance

Dear Reen,
I am not sure where this idea that belly dance is a "respectful", "dignified" art form comes from in the first place. In countries of origin it is certainly not looked upon in that way and everyone accepts that "nice" girls do not dance. In countries of origin any kind of display of the female body doing anything as sexual as belly dance is definitely not considered "respectful". It is considered sexy there and no one is afraid to say it is, though the connotation is naughty. I have found Middle Easterners are much more relaxed about it than many westerners. A few religious zealots are uptight about it; everyone else seems pretty accepting and okay with it. It's like, yes its naughty but also really fun, as forbidden fruit often is.
Regards,
A'isha
