I use the character shoes #550 in tan. They are made for dancing; the heel is very sturdy, have great arch support and make your legs look longer with out drawing too much attention to your feet. I switch back and forth between the character shoes and lyrical sandals depending on what I'm doing.

Fancy beads and sequins look odd with bare feet IMO. I've heard some contests will mark you points down for not wearing heels for Sharki. Restaurants and other business have rules about shoes for public health reasons. I used to dance barefoot casually until I got a big piece of glass in my foot at a hafla.

Outdoor stage floors are also a good reason to have shoes! You can cook an egg on black marley in the summer sun!
