Gisela,
I tend to think that European and Russian dancers have more of an Egyptian influence in their styles than Americans because of the greater access to Egypt and Egyptian style dancing and the popularity of the Cairo dancers and influence of Raqia Hassan.
But dont get me wrong, they still dance Egyptian style with a Western accent (read ballet and gymnastic influences). Which I think is lovely and refreshing to watch. Im always impressed by Russian dancers technical skills.
Natalia is one of my favorite Russian style dancers:

Hmm..come to think of it, who are the great European Turkish style dancers...I dont know of any...maybe another thread here addresses this topic. I only pop in here from time to time....

Is that their own "Oriental fantasy"-style or is it a variation of american cabaret?
