Oh, let me tell you about my one and only experience with a belly button jewel back in the pre-piercing days of the Dark Ages. (Those of you who hate back-when stories cover your eyes).
My boyfriend gave me a round "jewel" to lodge in my belly button and bet me I wouldn't wear it to dance at a gig- bet me five bucks which was a lot of money to me, so yeah, I wore it. I also forgot I was wearing it when I changed out of my costume later that evening. My boyfriend picked me up from the job, we went home, things- progressed, shall we say?- and at some point I stood up and pulled the tail of my shirt out of my jeans. That little action popped the belly button jewel from my naval, and sent said jewel through the air to bop my poor boyfriend smack on the nose. He yelled, "Incoming!" and dived for the floor.
(I might mention that was the only jewelry he ever gave me!)
