Before, I've seen just that which I've found ok. It's not what I do, but I can understand somebody doing it to impress the audience or play with it, but this got to my nerves.

There's a local dancer that sometimes make "faces" when dancing. During a song she can make a face at one particular moment. That way the audience know if the song is sad, happy, or just plain fun. I noticed that gimmick after watching her dance several times which means she's not doing it all the time. I can stand that, but the singing was more that I could stand from a not that good a dancer.
